You might be surprised that I haven’t danced since 2001.
2001 was the first year of my MBA. That was the last time I performed. Then came the second year of my MBA, when I finished my studies and moved to a rural area. That move shaped my profession for the next 20 years.
During those years, I got married and had kids. My responsibilities changed, and I had to consider what was best for the whole family. I had to move with my family as we relocated, be home for the kids, and keep my investment licenses current.
Even though this work wasn’t my passion, I kept doing it from one relocation to the next. I wasn’t awake to my own dreams then. So I didn’t do what I loved: dance.
The Dancer Who Never Left Me
Although I wasn’t dancing, my inner drive never disappeared.
In my car, I played Indian or American songs. I used to imagine myself at an Indian party, where some ladies would encourage me to come onto the dance floor. At first, I’d say no, but eventually, I would get up and dance. I played this scene in my mind so many times to my beloved Lamborghini song by my favorite, Diljit Dosanjh.
Music is my soul, and I love moving to it. The dancer in me was still alive. I just hadn’t found my way back to the stage.
The Wedding That Brought Me Back
Then came a blessed moment: my nephew’s wedding in Canada.
I’m still not sure what made me decide to prepare a dance for the reception. But I did. I choreographed a favorite Sridevi song, one that works beautifully at weddings.
A few people even advised me not to perform because I am a doctor’s wife. I couldn’t understand why that should matter. My outfit had already been delivered, made by a tailor friend in India, and I wasn’t going to leave it behind.
I packed it in my suitcase. The reception was my opportunity. That very morning, I told six different people I was going to perform my dance and asked them to put me on the schedule.
So, there I was at the reception hall. But just before my dance, I started feeling anxious. What if I blank out? If I told one person no, then I’d have to tell five more. I had only about six minutes to find everyone and tell them. What if someone I didn’t get to tell calls me onto the stage? I had no choice but to perform. I had only my stamina to make it through.
Most of the people there didn’t even know I could dance. But I stepped onto the stage in front of the packed hall. I started and finished the whole five-and-a-half-minute dance without missing a single beat. My lips got so dry in the middle that I couldn’t lip-sync, but otherwise, I felt I did well.
I was amazed that almost everyone was recording me on their iPhones. There was so much praise. When I got back home, my video was playing on their TV. I got a sense of what it’s like to be a star.
From One Video to Living My Dream
The next day, we flew back. All I had was that iPhone recording. I thought I would hold onto it to prove myself. But people said I should put it on TikTok. I had no idea what that was.
I opened personal TikTok and Instagram, made reels, and posted for couple of months. It was becoming too time consuming. I then started fresh by opening four social platforms in July 2025 and signed up with one company over another to find the right one, but I was still coming up with all the ideas, the planning, the caption writing, etc. I figured it would be much less stressful to handle it on my own.
For the past eight months, I’ve handled everything except editing.
Living With Purpose
Working on my life story gave me something I hadn’t expected: purpose. My purpose is not just making dances and videos or getting attention. My purpose is to share my story so people never stop living their dreams.
I am living my dream now, using my marketing brain to build my brand so I can share my message with people around the world. I’m still a Financial Consultant, but I’m also living my dream of dancing, modeling, and creating, hoping to inspire others along the way.
I’m excited to announce that my comeback dance, filmed at the reception hall in Canada, is coming this Friday, October 30, 2026!
