Dancer, Model & Financial Advisor

Hi, I’m Sareena Panesar. I am a dancer, model, writer, and financial advisor. Born in India and raised in the United States from the fifth grade onward, I grew up in two cultures. I embraced my Punjabi heritage at home, wearing salwar kameez and watching Bollywood movies. When I went to school, I navigated a different world: one with jeans, English, and the nuances of American culture. That fusion not only shaped my identity but also my aspirations.
At age 9, I began learning Bollywood dance by watching movies. What started as a hobby quickly evolved into a deep passion that filled my life. My love for music and rhythm grew so strong that I once dreamed of becoming a Bollywood actress. That dream eventually shifted, but it never lost its impact.

The Day My Dream of Being a Bollywood-Style Dancer Nearly Died

Everything changed in the 10th grade. Just one week into the first semester, I was hit by a speeding car while walking to school with my dear friend, who tragically did not survive the accident. As for me, I was in a coma for three weeks. Doctors feared that I might never talk, walk, or even breathe without assistance again; however, with determination, prayer, and family support, I defied all odds and was able to get up and start living my life again.

I was discharged from the hospital at the end of the first semester of my 10th-grade year. The school recommended that I start as a 10th grader the following year. However, I wanted to advance with the rest of my class to finish high school in time. I had extra class credits from 9th grade and earned additional credits through second-semester home tutoring. Together, these allowed me to start directly in the 11th grade. I was ready to work hard upon returning to school, taking multiple honors and AP classes, and joining seven clubs. After all that hard work, I graduated on time. I ultimately ranked 17th in a class of 336 students.

Overcoming Adversity to Become a Professional Model and Financial Advisor

Just four months after leaving the hospital, I started dancing again. I continued doing so through my university, where I completed my bachelor’s degree in BSAD. I also attended modeling school and started a part-time career in the field. It wasn’t until later in my post-college career that my plans would shift again. My father asked me to choose one of the three options: modeling, film, or MBA.

Due to my focus on practicality, the MBA was the clear winner, but I never stopped pursuing my passion for dance and modeling even after completing my MBA. I believe that doing what we love brings joy and can motivate us to achieve more. That’s why I have always found a balance between modeling, dance, and my professional pursuits as a financial advisor.

Resilience in the Face of Adversity

My 10th grade also became a casualty of the accident. I could not attend school due to the severe traumas I sustained to my head, hospitalization, and therapy. I received home study assistance in the second semester.

When I returned, the counseling staff suggested that I repeat my 10th grade due to the extensive absences. However, I believed in my abilities to overcome the challenges and insisted on promotions to 11th grade. With extra credits already completed in 9th grade and hard work, I enrolled in multiple honors and AP classes, took part in seven school clubs, and excelled. I finished high school on time with my friends and graduated 17th in a class of 336 Students .
